What is pet euthanasia and how do I know when it’s the right time?

Choosing the right time to proceed with this decision can be challenging for you and other members of your family. Our veterinary team is here to support you and guide you through this difficult time. Some factors that may help you in making your decision are: if your pet is in chronic pain that cannot be managed by medications, if they are no longer able to eat/ digest food properly, if your pet is no longer mobile, or if they can no longer take part in activities they previously enjoyed (e.g. playing, walking).

How is euthanasia administered in pets?

The procedure is 100% pain-free and takes only a few minutes to complete. You and your family can be with your pet throughout the entire process. The medication is typically administered via an IV injection. The medication will cause your pet to peacefully lose consciousness. Then, it will cause their organs to fail. At Simcoe Animal Hospital, we strive to provide a safe and comforting environment for you and your loved ones.
