Bloodwork Services for Pets

Many illnesses can only be detected by laboratory tests. Our hospital has an in-house laboratory so we can get same-day blood test results to help identify your pet’s medical condition and determine the proper treatment that they need. If more advanced screening is needed, we also have to ability to send out our samples to our referral lab. We recommend yearly screening when your pet reaches their senior years to make sure that we catch any abnormalities before they can become major health concerns.

Why is it important to perform blood tests for dogs, cats and other pets?

Aside from getting information about your pet’s health that can only be done by analysing their blood, routine bloodwork allows us to catch problems earlier. This way, we can prevent health issues from worsening and if your pet does get sick, this bloodwork provides baseline values for comparison.

How long does it take to get blood test results?

We will can provide you with your pet’s result the same day they get their blood drawn, because we have our own in-house lab. For some less common blood tests, we also use an outside laboratory, results from these tests may take a bit longer to come in.

How often should blood tests be done?

At Simcoe Animal Hospital, we recommend your pet gets routine wellness bloodwork at least once per year. This is even more important for pets who are senior age, as they are more prone to developing a wider array of health issues. Please feel free to call us to schedule your next consultation or to ask any of your further questions about our bloodwork and other laboratory services.
