Hi everyone! If you're wondering what you can use to protect your pet against ticks, you've come to the right place. I've listed all the medications we carry that prevent ticks below, along with any special instructions or information about the product.

Dogs

Advantix
  • A monthly topical (liquid) that is applied to the skin along your dog's back in 3 to 4 spots.
  • Allow the product to dry before giving your dog a bath or allowing it out for a swim - we suggest waiting 24 hours.
  • Ticks only need to come into contact with your dog's hair or skin in order to die.
  • Can be applied to dogs as young as 8 weeks old.
  • NOTE: This product is toxic to cats when wet! If you have cats in your home, but would like to use this product on your dog, we suggest separating your pets for the night, applying the medication, and allowing it to dry. The product is safe once dry.

Bravecto (chew)
  • A pork liver flavoured chew that is given to your dog every three months.
  • Best if given with a meal.
  • Ticks must take a blood meal to die - this will happen within 24 hours of attaching to your dog.
  • Can be used in dogs over 6 months of age, and can be given to pregnant or nursing dogs.

Bravecto (topical)
  • A topical (liquid) that is applied to the skin in 1 or multiple areas every 3 months.
  • Allow the product to dry before giving your dog a bath or allowing it out for a swim - we suggest waiting 24 hours.
  • Ticks must take a blood meal to die - this means a tick can remain attached for a short amount of time.
  • Can be applied to dogs over 6 months of age, and can be given to pregnant or nursing dogs.

Nexgard
  • A monthly  beef-flavoured chew.
  • Can be given with or without a meal.
  • Ticks must take a blood meal to die - this will happen within 24 hours of attaching to your dog.
  • Can be given to dogs as young as 8 weeks old.

Cats

Bravecto
  • A topical (liquid) that is applied to the skin in 1 or multiple areas every 2 months.
  • Ticks must take a blood meal to die - this means a tick can remain attached for a short amount of time.
  • Can be applied to cats over 6 months of age.

No product is 100 percent effective, so we suggest getting the lyme vaccine for your dog, and routinely checking your pets for ticks. Give us a call today if you would like one of these products, or would like some more information.
